Alex Franco was the original founder of The Albertson Wedding Chapel 50 years ago, and his goal was simple and beautiful. He wanted to make marriage easier, cheaper and less scary, so young people wouldn’t feel so scared of making the leap to what Rev. Franco called life’s great calling…”Finding & Loving Your Soulmate”.
By creating The Albertson Wedding Chapel he gave “Angelenos” an alternative to the tacky Vegas wedding chapels or the dreary, sad weddings at the L.A. county clerk’s office. Along with Jerry Brown in the late 1970’s Rev. Alex Franco helped institute and popularize the “confidential marriage license” still used today allowing couples “living together” to marry without a blood test streamlining the L.A. marriage process. He single- handedly performed an incredible amount of wedding ceremonies over the decades, all with dignity, warmth and respect.
